Assets

An Asset is a file you work with in Relayter — most commonly an image, but also video, PDF, InDesign, After Effects, font, and other file types. Assets live under Assets in the main navigation.

Adding assets

From the Assets overview, use the Add menu:

  • Add assets manually — provide information about the asset, optionally link it to a product, and upload the file(s).
  • Add assets automated — upload files that are processed automatically according to your team's Automation settings (for example, rules that tag or link assets based on their filename). Automation settings are configured under Settings → Data management → Asset data → Automation settings.

Relayter generates a thumbnail and preview for supported file types (images and videos) automatically. Some file types (for example spreadsheets, archives, and fonts) are stored as-is without a preview.

An asset with a matching filename and identical file content as an existing asset cannot be uploaded again — Relayter treats this as a duplicate.

Asset details

Opening an asset takes you to its Asset details page, where you can edit its custom fields and see its file information. Every asset also has an RIN (a unique reference code) shown alongside its name.

Assets have custom fields, configured under Settings → Data management → Asset data, similar to Products.

Linking assets

  • Link to products — from the Assets overview, select one or more assets and link them to a Product.
  • Assets can also be added directly to a Campaign Item (a Campaign's Briefing row), or placed directly as content on a Publication Item's layout.

Deleting an asset

Deleting an asset is not blocked by it being in use. If the asset is linked to a product, a campaign item, or placed on a publication item, Relayter removes those links automatically and then deletes the asset and its file.

Before you confirm, Relayter shows where the asset is currently used, and warns that products, campaigns, and projects will no longer have access to it once it's deleted. Review that usage list before deleting an asset that might still be needed in an active campaign or publication.
