Roles and Permissions
Relayter controls what a user can do through Roles, and controls which records a user can see through Groups. These are two independent settings — a user's access is the combination of both.
Roles
A Role is a named set of permissions (for example, "Admin" or "Producer"). Roles are fully customizable — your team defines which permissions each role grants. Manage roles under Settings → Role management:
- Add role to create a new role.
- Open a role to manage its Permissions and the Users assigned to it.
A user can be assigned one or more roles; their effective permissions are the combination of all roles assigned to them. Buttons and menu items for actions a user isn't permitted to perform are hidden rather than just disabled.
Permissions also apply inside Workflows: a workflow step (or even a single action within a step, such as signing off or downloading) can require specific permissions, so a role might grant access to a feature in general but still be restricted from a particular workflow step or action.
Groups (content permissions)
Separately from roles, Groups (under Settings → Content permissions → Content groups, together with Content rules) restrict which specific records (products, campaign items, assets, and more) a user can see or edit, based on conditions you define — independent of what their role otherwise allows. This is useful when different teams should only work with a subset of your content (for example, content for a specific brand or region).
