Templates
A Template is the reusable layout used to generate a Publication Item. Templates live under Templating in the main navigation.
Static content and dynamic content templates
Templates come in two kinds:
- Static content templates — InDesign-based layouts, made up of a page size, margins, and one or more content areas where Briefing content or assets are placed. A static content template also uses a Design library (reusable InDesign library assets), a Ruleset (rules that decide which design elements to use for given content), and optionally a Master page. A static content template supports up to two pages (i.e. a single page or a spread).
- Dynamic content templates — used for motion or web output, based on either an After Effects project file or an HTML project file, plus a Ruleset.
Both kinds are organized under Templating → Static content and Templating → Dynamic content respectively, alongside their supporting libraries, master pages, rulesets, and project files. Fonts used by templates are also managed here.
Templates and Variants
A template can define variant presets — different master pages, design libraries, rulesets, or project files per Variant — so the same template produces the right layout for each language or market variant of a publication.
How content is placed
When you assign Briefing content or assets to a publication item, Relayter places it into the template's areas automatically, filling the first available spot large enough for the content, without overlapping content that's already placed.
