Manage After Effects Project Files

After Effects project files are used in dynamic content templates to generate video or motion graphics output. Relayter expects these files as a ZIP archive containing your complete After Effects project.

Upload an After Effects project file

  1. Go to TemplatingAfter Effects project files.
  2. Click Add After Effects project file.
  3. Enter a name for the project.
  4. Click Source file and select a ZIP file containing your complete After Effects project from your computer.
  5. Click Save.

Relayter validates the uploaded ZIP file and reads the compositions from your project. The name must be unique within your team. This validation may take a moment depending on file size.

Use a project file in a template

  1. Open or create a dynamic content template.
  2. Set the Engine to After Effects.
  3. Go to the Project file section.
  4. Select the After Effects project file you want to use.
  5. Save the template.

Update a project file

You can update a project file's ZIP content or its metadata.

To upload a new version of the project:

  1. Go to TemplatingAfter Effects project files.
  2. Find the project and click to edit.
  3. Click Source file to upload a new ZIP file.
  4. Relayter validates and reads the new project.
  5. Click Save.

To update only the name:

  1. Go to TemplatingAfter Effects project files.
  2. Find the project and click to edit.
  3. Change the name.
  4. Click Save.

Updating a project file's ZIP content only affects new publication items generated with the updated project going forward. Publication items that were already created using the previous version of the project keep their originally generated files intact — the output files are stored separately in the publication item and are not regenerated when the project file is updated.

Delete an After Effects project

You can only delete an After Effects project that is not in use by any dynamic content templates or dynamic content rulesets.

  1. Go to TemplatingAfter Effects project files.
  2. Find the project.
  3. Click the delete button.
  4. If the project is in use, you'll see a list of dynamic content templates and dynamic content rulesets that reference it, and you won't be able to delete it. Remove those references first.
  5. Once the project has no references, confirm the deletion.
