Create a Static Content Template ​

Static content templates produce page-based layouts using InDesign or SVG files. Each template defines the pages, content areas, and how content is populated into those areas.

Create a static content template ​

  1. Go to Templating → Static content → Templates.
  2. Click the Add template button.
  3. In the template editor modal, configure the template using the tabs at the bottom:

Preset tab ​

This tab contains the core template configuration:

  • Template name (required) — the name visible in Relayter and used to identify the template
  • Template type (optional) — a classification tag for organizing templates
  • Tags (optional) — searchable labels to help categorize the template
  • Engine type (required) — choose InDesign or SVG:
    • InDesign — for page layouts defined in Adobe InDesign files
    • SVG — for scalable vector graphics templates
  • Channel (required) — the distribution channel (e.g., Print, Digital)
  • Master page (InDesign only, optional) — select a master page to use as a visual reference and to automatically populate the template's page size, margins, and number of pages
  • Design library (required) — select a design library containing fonts, colors, and other design resources used in the template
  • Static content ruleset (required) — select a ruleset that defines how content items are mapped to content areas
  • Number of pages (required) — choose Single (1 page) or Spread (2 pages)

When you select a master page, its page size, margins, and page count automatically update the template. You can optionally enable Show master page on background to see it while editing.

Sizes tab ​

Define the template's physical dimensions:

  • Width (required) — page width in the template's units
  • Height (required) — page height in the template's units
  • Margins — set spacing around the content area:
    • All sides are the same (optional checkbox) — enable to apply one margin value to all sides
    • Top, Bottom, Left/Inside, Right/Outside (required) — margin values for each side (Left/Right labels change to Inside/Outside for Spread pages)

Content tab ​

Define the content areas where items will be placed:

  • Click Add content block to create a new area
  • For each area, specify:
    • Position — X and Y coordinates
    • Size — width and height
    • Grid — number of columns and rows for placing items
    • Gutters — spacing between columns and rows

You can click on areas in the visual editor on the left to select and edit them, or manage them from this list.

Variants tab (optional) ​

This tab appears only if variants are enabled in your team's settings. It allows you to create variant presets with different design libraries, rulesets, and master pages for different product variants.
