Manage Master Pages ​

Master pages are InDesign template files that define shared layout elements (page size, margins, and page structure). You can apply the same master page to multiple static content templates to ensure consistent layout and formatting across them.

Create a master page ​

To add a new master page to your team:

  1. Go to Templating → Master pages.
  2. Click Add master page.
  3. In the form that opens:
    • Enter a Name for the master page (must be unique within your team)
    • Select a Channel (Print or Digital)
    • Upload an InDesign template file (.indt format)
  4. Click Save.

Relayter validates the InDesign file on an InDesign server to extract page properties (size, margins, and page count). The upload is processed as a background job.

Use a master page in a template ​

Master pages can be assigned to static content templates:

  1. Open a static content template for editing.
  2. In the template configuration, select a master page from the available list.
  3. Save the template.

The template now uses the selected master page for its layout.

Edit a master page ​

You can update a master page's name or upload a new InDesign file:

  1. Go to Templating → Master pages.
  2. Find the master page in the list and click the edit icon.
  3. In the dialog:
    • Update the Name if desired
    • Upload a new InDesign file to replace the existing one (optional)
  4. Click Save.

If the master page is currently used by one or more templates, Relayter displays a warning that editing it may affect the layout of those templates.

Download a master page file ​

To download the InDesign file for a master page:

  1. Go to Templating → Master pages.
  2. Find the master page in the list and click the download icon.
  3. The InDesign file downloads to your computer.

Delete a master page ​

You can delete a master page if it's no longer needed:

  1. Go to Templating → Master pages.
  2. Find the master page in the list and click the delete icon.
  3. If the master page is used by one or more templates, a dialog shows the affected templates.
  4. Click Delete to confirm.

After deletion, templates that used the master page will no longer have access to it. The templates themselves are not deleted.
